How UTM tags work
Source, medium, campaign
Source is the platform (YouTube, Instagram, a newsletter). Medium is the channel or placement (video, social, email). Campaign names the push, like a summer sale or a launch video, so you can group related traffic in analytics.
Term and content are optional extras
Term is the usual home for a paid-search keyword. Content distinguishes similar links — description vs pinned comment, or two buttons on the same page. Skip either field and it won't appear in the URL.
UTMs tell Google Analytics a campaign name — not which YouTube video sent the click. Use a redirect checker if you need to inspect a chain, or track the click back to a specific upload with GoloLink.
Frequently asked questions
UTMs are tags added to a URL — utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, plus optional utm_term and utm_content — so Google Analytics and similar tools can show which platform, channel, and campaign sent each visit.
Know which upload actually sent the click
GoloLink ties every click back to a specific YouTube video — and can still append UTMs on redirect so your analytics stay in sync.
